04/11/2010 Big Green Home Show

Thank you to everyone who came to see us at the Big Green Home Show last weekend. It was our first time at the show and we were very impressed, it was great seeing all the latest eco-friendly gadgets (especially the ones that can save us money!). We had a lot of interest in our ground to air heat exchangers (GAHX), the main reason being that many people today are building extremely airtight homes so during the summer months you end up boiling hot!! The great thing about the GAHX is that they reduce the temperature inside your home as they take the air from the ground - which is a constant 10 degrees. This works in reverse during the winter!

We are also extremely grateful to Phil Smith who travelled from Poole to deliver an excellent presentation about his experiences of installing an MVHR system into his newly renovated home. We know that people really benefit from hearing first hand accounts of renovation projects.

12/10/2010 Securing the planet for future generations

Together with one architects in Cornwall, we are helping to secure the planet for future generations with an energy efficient Community Hall, which will be used as a Children’s Centre. This will be somewhere children can play happily and healthily, with their parents knowing they are breathing fresh air reducing the risk of germs spreading, with an heat recovery ventilation system. This Community Hall is as sustainable and energy efficient as possible, thanks to ARCO2 Architecture Ltd. Read the press release in full here….

20/09/2010 Code for Sustainable Homes

Did you know that it costs an average of £1,409 a year to light and heat a family home in the UK? This is a whopping 19% of the average household spend. Wouldn't it be nice to think some of that money could be going to better use?

This is where the Code for Sustainable Homes comes in. If your detached home is built to Code Level 3 you can expect to reduce your energy consumption by at least 25%, resulting in a possible saving of £200 a year! This could go towards that weekend away!

To find out more go to our section on the Code for Sustainable Homes.

24/08/2010 Free heating and cooling all year round

A ground to air heat exchanger works in conjunction with an MVHR to really make the most of your natural surroundings.

It works by drawing air through an underground network of pipes, the GAHX provides an extremely cost effective source of renewable energy by using the temperature of the ground. At depths of 1.5 to 2 metres, the earth's temperature, in the UK, is a constant 8-12 degrees regardless of the time of year or the outside air temperature. This means that in the summer you don't need the window open, which is a security risk, and during the cold winter you don´t need to turn the heating up as much, saving on your heating bills.
