14/12/2011 Seven steps to a happy, healthy heat recovery system
Your heat recovery system (MVHR) is working very hard to keep you and your family healthy but it needs a little help along the way!
Here are seven simple steps to a happy healthy system!
Please refer to your operating guide for appropriate cleaning solution.
Step 1: Turn Off Your MVHR
Make sure your system is turned off and unplugged.
Step 2: Filer check
It is important to check and clean your filters every 3 months, as dirty or clogged filters lowers ventilation efficiency.
Remove the filters, if possible, and wipe clean with the sterilising solution, take extra care not to damage the filter. Ensure that you rinse and dry all parts thoroughly, after using the solution. For replacements please contact aftercare@admsystems.co.uk or call 01756 701051, have a note of your unit make and model number to hand.
Step 3: Condensate Drain
At the same time as the filters are checked, we recommend that the condensate drain is inspected for any blockages and that the trap is charged with water. Pour a litre of water into the drain to demonstrate that there are no blockages and that the water runs freely. Clean if necessary.
Step 4: External Intake Grilles/Roof Vents
Check periodically for dirt and leaves which unless removed will adversely affect your system’s performance. During these cold months it is especially important to check as snow or frost can block the external vents.
Step 5: Cleaning Heat Exchanger
Remove exchanger and wash ensuring that the sterilising solution goes in-between the Cell plates.
Step 6: Inspect the Ductwork and Clean Grilles
Once a year, check the ductwork leading to and from your system. Remove and inspect the grilles covering the duct ends, then vacuum inside the ducts.
Step 7: Check Terminals
Check the terminals mounted in the ceiling in each room for dust/dirt, if very dirty remove and wash.
It is recommended that your Heat Recovery Ventilation System is serviced annually. All these checks are easy if you have time, if not, let us worry about it, contact us on 01756 701051.
08/12/2011 Are you ready for the Arctic weather?
Experts are warning that a severe cold snap could take place from today; warnings of blizzard like conditions have been forecast. We have 4 inches of snow and 100 mph winds to look forward to!
The met office has issued a maximum level red extreme weather warning for strong winds and heavy snow today and tomorrow in the North, snow is forecast for as far South as Birmingham.
Obviously it is important to keep your house warm, but with rising fuel bills some people are choosing to keep their heating off. Fuel poverty is a real problem, it has been reported that people are opting for alternative methods such as wearing extra clothes and using hot water bottles! But is this practical, by not putting your heating on you risk frozen or burst pipes, which would be far more costly in the long run! A heat recovery ventilation system recovers over 90% of the heat in your home so you don’t need to have your heating on as high, saving you money on your bills overall! Since having a system fitted, one of our happy customers now saves 20% on their heating bills.
02/12/2011 Why you should have a 'Competent Person' to install your MVHR System
From January 2012, by having your ventilation system installed by a competent person will reduce the 40% specific fan power penalty applied to Heat Recovery Ventilation (MVHR) to 30% and the 30% penalty for a Central Extract Ventilation (MEV) to 25%. If the house builder chooses a ‘Competent Person’ to install their system it will unlock a SAP benefit which will improve a building’s DER.
Under the scheme a trained contractor must be a member of a Competent Person Scheme and they’ll make sure that the installation is in line with all the competency requirements.
We are very excited about this new change as we already have a ‘Competent Person’ working as an installer, more will be getting trained to meet this demand. The benefits to a homeowner, who chooses to use a trained contractor, are a fully optimised system that run efficiently and quietly.
