Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and are looking forward to 2014. 2014 is set to be a exciting year with many new ventures on the pipeline.

07/11/13 New self build mortgages now available...

Building your own home? Did you know that Hinckley & Rugby building society are launching a new mortgage?

As long as you already own the land you plan to build on, have plans drawn up by an RIBA architect and have full planning permission you should be eligible!

This is the building society's first self build mortgage so it's very exciting times for them, it is available at up to 80% Loan to Value (LTV) with interest at 5.64%.

Hinkley and Rugby's chief executive Chris White commented "For a small but growing number of people, having a dream home designed and then building it is an increasingly popular choice. This mortgage is specially designed to help make that dream come true."

This is great news for all you budding self builders out there. Another choice of mortgage is excellent news and will hopefully encourage more lenders to do the same - making it easier to self build ultimately increasing the number further!

14/10/13 Will it be the big freeze this winter?

Forecaster are predicting the worst winter for decades, with snow forecasted as early as November! Forecaster for Vantage Weather Services, Jonathen Powell stated "We are looking at a potentially paralysing winter, the worst for decades, which could at times grind the nation to a halt.

"Persistent cold snaps with some very heavy snowfall are likely, and I would not be surprised if some records are not broken this year."

Worrying stuff! However the met office are saying it is far too early to predict how bad this winter will be.

Even if the winter isn't as bad as is being predicted we all know it will still be pretty cold. With fuel prices set to go up by 10%, many people will be wondering how they are going to be able to afford to heat their homes, this is especially worrying for the vulnerable!
